You can only move parts of a picture in a painting program. This can often leave holes in the shapes.


Moving Shapes in a Drawing Program

In a drawing program, any line or shape you draw on the screen is called an object. They are therefore known as object-based programs.

The objects are stored in layers on top of each other. This means that you can move them about without leaving any holes.


Dragging an Object Move to Back Move to Front
You can select an object and move it about without leaving any holes. You can move a selected object so that it appears behind all the other objects. You can move a selected object so that it appears in front of all the other objects.
