Some digital maps also allow you to put layers or placemarks on top of the map to add extra details, such as:
- local weather conditions;
- photographs of any landmarks;
- links to online encyclopaedias giving background information about the places shown;
- contact details for any local businesses – such as restaurants or hotels;
- digital models for some of the major buildings.
