The Internet is a lot of computers connected together across the World.

Connecting to the Internet
An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is a company that provides Internet access. There are two ways they can offer fast broadband connections:
- by plugging an ADSL modem into the computer and a telephone line;
- by plugging a cable modem into the computer and a cable TV control box.

Wireless Connections
A wireless or WiFi connection lets computers (usually laptops) access the Internet without having to be plugged into a modem socket. This means that they can be moved around easily without lots of wires getting in the way.

Hacking
Some people worry that a hacker could illegally access their computer using the Internet and steal personal files and information from it. A firewall is a program that allows you to access the Internet but prevents other users of the Internet from accessing your computer.
