The Computer System

All the different parts of a computer - including the devices you plug into it and the programs installed on it - are known collectively as a computer system. All of the electrical or mechanical parts of the computer are known as hardware. A hardware device which is not part of the computer itself, such as a printer, is a peripheral. Programs which run on the computer - like a word processor or a game – are known as software.
