The base unit contains many different parts that the computer needs to work. The most important ones are:

The Motherboard This is a large circuit board that connects together all the other parts of the computer which are plugged into it.
The Power Supply Unit The Power Supply Unit supplies power to the computer system for it to work.
The Processor This is the ‘brain' of a computer because it performs all the calculations that the computer does. The faster the processor is the faster your computer will work.
Expansion Cards You can plug expansion cards into sockets on the motherboard to add extra features to your computer. A sound card will let it play high quality sound and a video card will let it display information on a monitor.
